Sweet & Sassy

Sweet and Sassy still hasn't decided who is sweet and who is sassy.  We figured we're all a little of each!

Dot Schneider (pictured right), our tenor, grew up in Pittsburgh listening to her father's and grandfather's quartets practicing in the living room.  She got hooked at the age of six and joined Sweet Adelines as soon as she was sixteen.  She retired from the U.S. Postal Service recently, and is married to Mark and has two children: a daughter, Jill, and a son, Mark, three granddaughters and two great grandsons.  Dot is tenor section leader and has also served as chorus assistant director.

Alice Greene (second from right) who sings lead, is a charter member of Song O' Sky Chorus.  She is a retired surgical nurse, having worked at the Veterans Administration Hospital for 34 years. She is a native of New Jersey, and says, "I was born in the wrong place.  I got here as soon as I could!"  She has worn many hats with the chorus, most recently as treasurer (chief penny pincher).  She also sings in the choir at Groce United Methodist Church.

Barbara Reid (left) is our bass.  She joined Song O' Sky 22 years ago, and sang lead for the first two years.  After being asked to switch to bass, she decided that she found her true place in the chorus and now says she won't sing any other part.  Barbara is married to Tim Reid.  The have two daughters, five grandchildren, and two great grandchildren.  When Barbara is not helping out with the grandkids, she does a little acting during the Christmas season with the Montford Park Players as Mrs. Fezziwig.

Laura Mahan (second from left) sings baritone.   Laura and her husband, Hal, own a business in Asheville's Historic Biltmore Village called The Compleat Naturalist, selling all kinds of nature study tools and supplies, plus nature-oriented gifts.  Laura grew up in Ohio and attended N.C. State, majoring in botany and wildlife conservation.  She received her M.S. degree in biology from UNC-Charlotte, and was an educator and administrator at several natural history museums before she and Hal decided to start their own business here in Asheville.  Laura has been a chorus member for 10 years.  She is currently Song O' Sky vice president (and website maven!), and has also served as president and membership chair.
