Vocal Remedy
Colleen Johnson
(lead, second from left). Colleen has 13 years experience with
Sweet Adelines. While in Portland, Oregon she sang in three
choruses, most recently with the 143-voice Pride of Portland
Chorus. During eight of those years, she sang with three quartets.
In 2004, she and Cecil, her husband of 39 years, moved to Asheville
to be nearer to their family. They have two grown sons and three
grandchildren. Colleen’s most recent discovery is her talent to
arrange music. She has arranged several of the songs in the Vocal
Remedy repertoire. Colleen is currently a Chapter-at-Large member
of Sweet Adelines.
Sylvia Easterling
(bass, second from right). Sylvia has been a member of Sweet
Adelines for about 18 years. She has served as tenor section
leader, and currently serves as bass assistant section leader. She
sang tenor for six years with Charisma Quartet, and now sings bass
with Vocal Remedy. Sylvia’s husband Skip, and daughter, Alison
support her enthusiasm for Song O’ Sky Chorus. She is currently
singing lullabies to her new grandson.
Cheryl Reavis
(baritone, far right). Cheryl joined Sweet Adelines in 1996 and has
been a member of three quartets. Cheryl said that “Singing baritone
has been the ultimate joy of her musical life. It’s the part that
makes the barbershop sound unique.” She enjoys singing with Vocal
Remedy and expressed that, to her, the quartet is much more than a
musical group. Cheryl is mother of daughter, Melissa. In her
remaining time, she works as a professional risk manager in the
world of insurance.
Karen Caldwell
(tenor, far left). Karen discovered Sweet Adelines in 2002 and was
instantly captivated by the sound of barbershop harmony. She has
been a member of Song O’ Sky Chorus ever since, and has been singing
with Vocal Remedy since February 2004. Karen used to sing back up
vocals for the James Taylor Band (in her dreams, that is). She and
husband, Jordan, have one daughter, Lindsey, who lives in Paris. In
her professional life, Karen coordinates a community coalition that
works to support policies that improve public health.
